Honors Geometry Section 4.5 (2) Rectangles, Rhombuses & Squares
2
oh my!
3
A rectangle is a parallelogram with four right angles.
4
Since a rectangle is a parallelogram, a rectangle will have all the properties of a parallelogram.
5
Recall the properties of a parallelogram:
6
Theorem 4.5.9 In a rectangle the diagonals are congruent.
7
Examples: Consider rect. LOSI.
8
A rhombus is a parallelogram with four congruent sides. Any rhombus will also have the properties of a parallelogram listed above.
9
Theorem 4.5.8 In a rhombus, the diagonals are perpendicular.
10
Theorem 4.5.X In a rhombus, each diagonal bisects a pair of opposite angles.
11
Examples: Consider rhombus BSRE.
13
A square is a parallelogram with four right angles and four congruent sides.
14
A square will have all the properties of the parallelogram, rectangle and rhombus.
