3 What is FCCLA? Career and technical student organziation (CTSO)
FCCLA is very unique – we are the only CTSO that has family as the central focus.

4 Who can join? Students who have had a family and consumer sciences class Students who currently have a FCS class. This means you! FCS classes at MCHS include: Life Skills Foods & Nutrition Child Development Services I Parenting / Child Development Relationships

5 Look at the numbers Today, over 220,000 members in nearly 7,000 chapters are active in a network of associations in 50 states, plus the District of Columbia, Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico.

8 A club is born In 1917, President Woodrow Wilson signed the first national vocational education act into law This law started vocational programs such as home economics and agriculture education In 1945 a group of people met in Chicago and selected a name and a constitution for a national student home economics organization.

9 A club is born The first programs were called Home Economics
Home Economics programs are now called Family and Consumer Sciences.

10 We don’t just cook and sew
In 1999 the Future Homemakers of America (FHA) officially changed its name to Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA). They changed the name to better reflect the mission and purpose of the organization.

11 Affiliation To be affiliated means that a local chapter of FCCLA has sent in its national and state dues along with the names of all the people in that local chapter. Kentucky was the very first state-affiliated association.

12 EXTRA! EXTRA! Read all about FCCLA in the national magazine Teen Times, first published in 1945.

Put the brakes on impaired driving and traffic crashes.Through peer education help your friends arrive alive and lower the number one cause of death for youth in America. Manage your $! Use this program to help you make, save, and spend your money to be financially fit.

17 National Programs Win a scholarship to travel to Japan, experience another culture, and develop independence while living with a Japanese host family. Put yourself in charge of your future! Enhance your job skills and gain valuable on-site work experience with FCCLA’s Leaders at Work program. Give yourself the power to make a positive change in your families, careers, and communities, one goal at a time.

Build proficiency and achievement in leadership and job related skills. Empower youth with attitudes, skills, and resources in order to recognize, report, and reduce youth violence. Eat right, be fit, and make healthy choices
