TO… Nutrients TO… Oxygen & CO 2 TO… Waste TO… Organ Systems TO… What Would Happen

As soon as you put food in your mouth, the process begins. Starch and sugar turn into enzymes for nutrients. The food then goes down the esophagus after you chew it and into the stomach, where it is digested fully into small food particles. Here, the food is mixed with acid and protein begins to be digested. The food is then passed to the small intestine and mixed with bile to digest the fats. Carbohydrates and proteins are also digested and then all the nutrients get pulled into the blood stream by villi. All the nutrients go into red blood cells and to the cells that need it. Cell

We breathe in oxygen and air and it comes down the trachea into the lungs. The air sacs of the lungs, called alveoli, collect the oxygen. The oxygen-rich blood then returns to the heart and transfers into the main blood stream to be put everywhere in the body. The cells pick up the oxygen and use it, creating carbon dioxide. Then, carbon dioxide left in the lungs and waste of the oxygen in the cells is transferred into the blood stream and back to the lungs to leave the body. The carbon dioxide leaves the body through the mouth and nose, the way oxygen came in. Cell outout c o

If you went to the Nutrients part of this presentation, you would have seen that the Digestive system gives nutrients from the small intestine. But what happens to the rest of the food? Well, the Large Intestine is connected to the Small Intestine, which sends the food to it after the nutrients that were sent off were given to the cells. Then, this huge intestine stores the waste and prepares for it to be eliminated. After it is stored, it is sent out of the body through the end of the Large Intestine.

The Organ Systems Involved in the Body: -The Respiratory System; this system gives oxygen to the blood stream and takes out carbon dioxide and other gas waste. -The Circulatory System; this system delivers nutrients and oxygen throughout the body, taking out waste and delivering back to the systems that take it out. -The Digestive System; this takes waste out of the body and gives nutrients to the cells. -The Muscular System; this system moves the body and performs jobs. -The Skeletal System; this system holds up the body. -The Excretory System; this removes excess, unnecessary or dangerous materials from the body. -The Endocrine System; delivers hormones in the body.

If one of these systems, say the circulatory system, didn’t work to provide or get rid of any nutrient or waste, the body will have many problems. If the circulatory system didn’t work to provide the rest of the cells with oxygen and nutrients, for example, then the body would shut down. The body then would slowly deteriorate and die. If the body couldn’t get rid of solid waste in the digestive system, then the body would slowly have too much in your body and either the intestine would get destroyed or explode from too much waste in the body. If this gets backed up enough, though, there would be a poison or even lack of nutrients given to the cells. You would then either be very sick and have to get surgery to fix this or you would die.
