The Most Dangerous Game Open your textbook to page 144. We will be reading a short story called The Most Dangerous Game. This is one of my all time favorite stories! I think you will really enjoy this adventure tale!

Review Questions How did Rainsford end up on the island? What was Rainsford famous for writing? When Zaroff decided he was becoming bored of hunting animals, who/what did he then decide to hunt? Where did Zaroff get his new “game animals” from? How did Rainsford stay alive for so long? What did he keep making? How does Rainsford finally win the hunt? How do we know that from the story?

Conflict in The Most Dangerous Game Open up the “Conflict in The Most Dangerous Game” document on iTeach. We will be taking some notes and then you will be filling out questions 3 &4 on your own.

Conflict Notes Conflict – a literary element that involves a struggle between two opposing forces (usually a protagonist and an antagonist.)protagonistantagonist External Conflict – a situation where a character finds himself in struggle with outside forces. Internal Conflict - arises as soon as a character experiences two opposite emotions or desires; usually virtue or vice, or good and evil inside him.

Conflict Notes Man versus Man – Characters are pitted against one another. Man versus Nature – The hero must overcome a force of nature (ex. The weather, animals, the sea, jungle, mountains, etc.) to reach his goal. Man versus Himself – Protagonist must overcome his own nature (ex. Fears, character flaws, etc.) to reach his goal. *Can you give me an example of each type of conflict from some movie or book?

On Your Own… Answer Questions 3 & 4. Take 5-10 minutes to complete these tasks in silence! You may listen to music if it helps you concentrate and remain quiet.
