5.  Emphasising of the subject or the object of the sentence: › My brother cut down the apple tree. › It was my brother who cut down the apple tree.(not someone else) › It was the apple tree that my brother cut down. (not another tree)

7.  Use of SO and SUCH › He’s such a nice man!  Use of exaggerated lexis › We’re starving!  Use of intensifying adverbs › She’s absolutely wonderful.  Use of a simile › You’re as cold as ice!

8.  Use of ON EARTH, after a question word › Why on earth did you say that?  Use of inversion after a negative adverbial › Under no circumstances would he agree to that.  Use of inversion after a restrincting adverbal › Little did she guess what would happen next.
