WHAT IS IT? Celebrating the victory of the historical Battle of 1862 between Mexico and France. It is a symbol of Mexican pride and unity and includes great festivities. There are special events planned and the focus is always Mexican Culture. Music and dance forms unique to the region are spotlighted at events such as ballet folklórico and mariachi.

P ARADES & F IESTAS Parades and fiestas are the main celebratory activity for Cinco de Mayo. The holiday is primarily celebrated in: Mexico United States Canada Cayman Islands Malta

F OOD Food is one of the main traditions of Cinco de Mayo. Popular foods include: Menudo Soup Plantain Chips Mole Poblano Tacos al Pastor

D ANCING Dancing is very popular at Cinco de Mayo celebrations. Traditional dances include: The Mexican Hat Dance Jarabe Tapatio La Zapatiya

D RESS Everyone dresses festively for Cinco de Mayo celebrations. Traditional attire includes: Hues of red, green, and white (Mexican flag) Bright, pretty colors Sombreros, twirly skirts, cowboy boots, or huaraches Dressing up like one of Mexico's favorite historical figures

CINCO DE MAYO It seems that even people not of Mexican descent may also have an indirect reason to celebrate Cinco de Mayo. Whatever the case may be, people should realize that this holiday does have some historical and cultural significance to millions of people and that not everyone considers it an excuse to go out and party.
