Emma Kious

 Full name: Leonardo di ser Piero da Vinci  Nationality: Italian  Birth date: April 15, 1452  Birth place: Vinci, Republic of Florence (current Italy)  Death date: May 2, 1519 (aged 67)  Death place: Amboise, Kingdom of France  Work: Many different fields of science and art  Signature: MESSY!!!

 He was left-handed and dyslexic  All his life he would make spelling mistakes because he didn’t have a proper education  He was vegetarian  Leonardo enjoyed purchasing caged birds so that he could set them free

 He only did around 20 paintings  He had more than 4100 sheets full of drawings and notes of ideas for new inventions  It took him until his death to keep on touching up Mona Lisa’s lips (16 years)

 Mom: Simple peasant, Caterina  Dad: rich notary, Ser Piero da Vinci  His parents didn’t marry  He grew up and was educated* with his dad *He went to school but never had a very “deep” education: he never learned Latin and was very bad at spelling

Who was this man?

 Mona Lisa  The last supper  Ginevra de Benci  Lady with an Ermine  La belle ferronniere  The Madonna of the Yarnwinder  Many more…

The painting “Mona Lisa” survived after all those years even after all the humiliation…

 The flying machine  Aerial Screw (early helicopter)  Machine that could transport water (up hill)  A sort of car that runs using small gears

He was a scientist, mathematician, engineer, inventor, anatomist, painter, sculptor, architect, botanist, musician and a writer.

 Scissors (not invent just made them more famous & improved them)  Parachutes  Anatomy studies (human body studies)  Lots of engineer things IMAGINE A WORLD WITHOUT SCISSORS AND PARACHUTES!!!

 Da Vinci became famous because he was an apprentice to Andrea del Verrocchio, who was the best painter and sculptor of his time.  Since people knew Verrocchio, they began to know Leonardo.  At first, Da Vinci helped Verrocchio with some of his paintings  He then became an independent master  He made his first scientific drawing not so long after he became a master

 There are many hypothesis:  He didn’t have enough money  He didn’t have enough materials  He tried but it was too risky so he abandoned

 Here are MY hypothesis:  He wasn’t aloud by the government  He tried in secret so he may have succeeded but he maybe wanted to keep it to himself BUT he died maybe earlier than he had planned so he didn’t have time to show everyone

Da Vinci was ahead of his time (Really?! A helicopter in the Renaissance!!! THAT’s kinda cool!)
