Women and Work Sector Pathways Initiative The Women & Work: Sector Pathways Initiative was launched in England in the March 2006 Budget Statement as part of the Governments response to the Women and Work Commissions report Shaping a Fairer Future. Pilot Project 2006 – March 2008 Phase 1 of the initiative aimed to test new recruitment and career pathways for women.

Phase 1 9 SSCs were involved in Phase 1 of the project. Asset Skills, IMI Automotive Skills, Construction Skills, E U Skills, Improve, Lantra, Semta, Skills for Logistics, Skillfast UK Project Criteria – comprehensive; highlights Commenced with a target of 7000 participants Success led to 7568 women completing an individual training plan

Evaluation of Phase 1 Over 80% success rate for Phase 1 of the project 42% of participants through the project gained more responsibility at work, 36% obtained a salary increase, 28% secured a promotion 62% of women involved agreed it was harder for women than men to progress to senior roles in industry

Phase 2 Additional Government funding for 3 years 2008/2009, 2009/2010, 2010/2011 £5M per year will be funded through DIUS Expectation that 5,000 women per year will complete and individual training plan Impact of current climate – 2 of the 10 projects have been affected by the current climate Case Studies
