Rhonda Tharp KMS GT PROGRAM FOR 2013-2014

 GT students were grouped in a tutorial class for various reasons  Academic discussions  Problem – based activities  Creation of 2 products (fall, spring)  Social development  Emotional support  For teachers to monitor personality traits, and for counselors to offer guidance (for traits like perfectionism, anxiety, depression, or unmotivated) WHERE WE’VE BEEN…

 GT students were given a personal interest survey to help them focus on a particular topic of research.  Contracts, checkpoints, materials and resources were provided to facilitate students and the creation of their products.  Students were also given multiple intelligence surveys and personality surveys to see where they fell on a spectrum of interests, abilities and personality traits.  Group discussions and activities were provided throughout the year. 2012

 We used the Autonomous Learner’s Model as a guide for the program.  Students selected a topic in the fall, conducted research, posed questions and developed a product to present to their peers.  In the spring, students selected from a list of research topics to collaborate in a group and presented their findings to their peers. 2012

 Using data gathered from student surveys and teacher surveys, we are moving away from grades and contracts.  Using the ideas from Creating Innovators, we are moving away from the students developing 2 products.  Instead, the teacher will facilitate a “lab” approach for creativity and innovation using collaboration with peers, problem-based activities, discussions and research. WHERE WE’RE GOING

 The goal is to have a culminating project presentation at the end of the year. No grades will be taken. (helping the community, inventing something new, creating a website/wiki, etc)  The GT CP teacher will help the students develop “play, passion and purpose.”  Through class discussions, class surveys and interest surveys, problem-based activities will be created. Students will brainstorm, collaborate, research and apply/create a solution to the problem. 2013
