2
2 Agenda VMware HA and DR solutions SAP Performance Monitoring Why virtualization of business critical SAP applications?
3
3 Top Challenges for SAP Customers Innovation – Build of optimized SAP infrastructures to support new business opportunities Manageability – Delivery of better SLAs at lower Capex and Opex Reliability – Highly reliable technologies and products Agility – Flexible SAP Infrastructure as a Service for new and continously changing business requirement. Cost Reduction – Provisioning of measurable and documented TCO and ROI metrics

5 Lower CAPEX & OPEX Better “Quality of Service” Better IT Performance Higher Availability Why virtualization of business critical SAP?
6
6 Virtualization of all IT assets with one virtualization platform. VMware and SAP, a strategic partnership VMware vSphere, vCOps, SRM, vCHS
7
7 SAP is the Fastest Growing Workload on VMware % of Workload Instances That are Virtualized With VMware Source: VMware customer survey, Jan 2010, Jun 2011, Mar 2012, June 2013 Question: Total number of instances of that workload deployed in your organization and the percentage of those instances that are virtualized.

10
10 Business Continuity - Basic Concepts VMware vMotion™ & Storage vMotion™ zero downtime maintenance live migration of SAP applications and data bases with transaction integrity VMware Distributed Resource Scheduler (DRS) dynamic allocation of computer ressources to SAP workloads, e.g. to meet SLAs High Availability (HA) monitors, starts and stops resources takes care of data consistency through fencing methods Disaster Recovery (DR) replicates data to a recovery site "DR" is also often read as "Data Replication", but this is only a part of a Disaster Recovery concept provides failover and recovery methods (not necessarily automated)
11
11 Business Continuity - VMware HA Cost effective solution for multiple SAP systems independent of Guest OS SAP on VMware customers have achieved “three nines” availability http://www.vmware.com/files/pdf/customers/10Q3_MIAMI_DADE.pdf Not application aware - no monitoring of SAP CI or database
12
12 VMware HA for SAP HANA Scale Out and High Availability SAP HANA Physical High Availability Needs one Standby Server IDLE Server will be used only after fail over Physical HANA HA is N+1 architekture 3+1 outage of one HANA node only! HANA Node 1 HANA Node 3 HANA Node 2 HANA Standby SAP HANA vCloud Suite HA No standby or idle Server necessary In a Cloud architekture: migration of virtual machines in case of failure; ressource distribution as needed. Significant savings. VMware vCenter Operations VMware vSphere HANA Node 1 HANA Node 2 VMware vSphere HANA Node 3 Test & Dev VMware vSphere ASESAP Fully utilized Hardware, reduced cost
13
13 Business Continuity - VMware Fault Tolerance Single identical VMs running in lockstep on separate hosts, one is primary Zero downtime, zero data loss of ASCS virtual machine in case of hardware failure How much load can 1 x vCPU VM running ASCS handle: 200 concurrent users running SD txns, avg CPU utilization of ASCS VM < 5 %
14
14 Business Continuity – Application HA VMware integrated solution from different vendors Agents for DB and SAP installed in VM provide service monitoring and restart capability Integrated to vCenter via VMware HA API Application visibility from vSphere Client Bridges gap between VMware HA and in-guest clustering solutions http://www.vmware.com/resourc es/techresources/10147

24 Business Continuity - Site Recovery Manager Disaster Recovery Management Protect virtual machines by storage replication using integration adapters. Create and manage recovery plans directly from vCenter Server. Monitor availability of remote site and alert users of possible site failures. Store, view and export results of test and failover execution from vCenter Server. Non-Disruptive Testing Use storage snapshot capabilities to perform recovery tests without losing replicated data. Automated Failover Initiate recovery plan execution from vCenter Server with a single button.
