Presentation to the Executive Committee PAHO/WHO, June 2003 6 PAHO Activities Training in WNV surveillance and diagnostics for epidemiologists, laboratory personnel and veterinarians, with CDC collaborating. 2002: CAREC 23 participants from Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica, Cayman Islands, Cuba, French Guiana, Colombia, Brazil, and Venezuela. 2003: Gorgas Institute and Ministry of Agriculture (Panama) 35 participants from Dominican Republic, Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama.

For 2003, Plan to strengthen laboratory diagnostic capacity for equine encephalitis viruses, including regional production of the necessary supplies.
