1 Draft Cemeteries Strategy Harlesden ACF 24 th July 2012

2 Where are we now?  4 Council owned cemeteries  25% of Brent residents who died in 2011 were buried in Brent cemeteries - the London average is 14%  Virgin land only available at Carpenders Park Lawn Cemetery  Limited space but we do have options  106 acres of green space.

3 Vision ‘to meet the needs of bereaved people and the wider community by’:  Conducting burials and commemoration of the dead in a secure, sustainable and well- maintained environment  Offering burial options at a choice of four cemeteries  Enabling local communities to access cemeteries as valuable historic green spaces promoting wellbeing, biodiversity, learning and recreation.

4 Objectives  Use management methods which meet current and future needs in respect of local burial options  Deliver a value for money cemeteries service that is at least self-financing  Provide a supportive and inclusive service that reflects the diversity of the borough.

5 What happens next ?  Consultation on the draft strategy and action plan runs until 28 th September  All documentation is available on the Consultation Portal  Strategy submitted for approval by Brent Council Executive in December 2012  Action plan implemented.
