Goal: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to find the slope of a line from a graph.

Given (1, 2) and (4, 1) find the slope of the line Step 1: Plot 1 st point

Step 2: Plot 2 nd point and connect

Let’s find the slope! Remember from last time….we determined that one way slope can be found is: Slope = Rise = 1 Run = 3 So….slope in this example is But WAIT!!!

Is the slope negative or positive? If a line goes DOWN from left to right….the slope is negative. If a line goes UP from left to right….the slope is positive. What happens here? It goes down. Therefore the slope is Left to Right

Using your own graph paper, plot the given points and find the slope of the line. Answer the following two questions to practice. Click on the button below to start Start the practice questions HERE!

Question 1 Find the slope of the line through (-1,3) and (3, 4) a. 4 b. 1/4 c. - 1/4 d. - 4

Question 2 Find the slope of the line through (0,1) and (5, 6) a. 1 b. -1 c. 7/5 d. -5/7

How did you do???? Click here for results!!
