Handling and storing the new products
NEVER HAUL OR STORE WINDOWS OR DOORS WITH THERMAL PANE GLASS LAYING FLAT!!! Hauling the windows while laying flat will cause the glass to vibrate and will cause premature seal failure. when it is warm, the framing will warp where it is not supported. The windows and doors are designed to carry their own weight standing upright. Hauling the glass vertically does not stress the seals in the thermal pane as much when transporting the units. Units with blinds must be hauled upside down to protect the blind cords! Verify that all of the material for the job are in stock. By verifying that all product are here for the project before the job is started allows for a smoother and better quality installation, and generally saves more time than it takes to get organized on the job site. Proper handling is required for a quality product and installation.

Installation Manual Renovate using lead safe work practices.
Lead can affect children’s brains and developing nervous systems, causing reduced IQ, learning disabilities, and behavioral problems. Lead is also harmful to adults. Beginning April 2010, federal law requires contractors that disturb lead-based paint in homes, child care facilities and schools, built before 1978 to be certified and follow specific work practices to prevent lead contamination. Step 1. Paint testing must be performed on all surfaces to be affected by the work, or you must presume the paint is lead-based. Step 2. If lead is present, containment procedures must be followed. Step 3. Cleaning requirements must be met, checked by a certified professional and documented to meet the government regulations. Step 4. Lead contaminated waste and cleanup water must be disposed of safely.

Step 13. Nail the nailing fin with roofing nails The nails in the nailing fins hold the exterior of the frame from moving when installing the insulation around the frame. Step 14. Install the foam insulation around the frame The foam insulation is the primary seal around the window frame. Start filling the cavity right behind the nailing fin, and make sure to work the insulation in around the shims. Changing windows in framed walls

Step 15. Rip the jamb extensions to the correct width and screw the corners together. The jamb extension is what holds the trim together, and is also where the blind brackets will be remounted, so screwing the top corners together allow for a solid installation without having to shim behind the extension jambs. Step 16. Install the trim onto the jamb extensions. Install the trim that you took off of the old window on the new jamb extensions. Clean the old glue off with a sanding block, DO NOT RECUT THE MITERS, unless matching the trim up to the old paint lines or wall paper is not an issue. Changing windows in framed walls

Step 17. Caulk the joint where the jamb extensions will set against the window Install color matching silicone caulking on the face of the jamb extension to glue the jamb extension to the window Step 18. Install the interior trim. Slide the interior trim into the opening, and line the trim up with the paint lines or wall paper lines on the wall. Nail the trim to the wall. DO NOT RUN NAILS THROUGH THE MDF JAMB EXTENSIONS. (Nail filler does not work to hide the nail holes) Changing windows in framed walls
