4. What is it? The United Nations (UN) is an international organisation made up of nearly every country in the world.

6. History of the United Nations The UN was formed in 1945. What major world conflict ended in 1945? Why would this event make people around the world think that human rights needed to be protected?

8. The U.N. Charter... The U.N Charter is like the referee's rule book which acts as a international law. All countries have to sign to say they will follow the rules.

9. When a country breaks the rules and goes against the U.N. Charter, the U.N. is supposed to punish this country. They could do this by… 1) Not allowing that country to do any business with any other country. 2) Using the military to force countries to obey the law.

In other words the 5 permanent member have the power to VETO (block) any resolution. Since 1984, China has vetoed 3 resolutions; France 3; Russia/USSR 4; UK 10 and the US 43
