Resources about the Process
Review the C-ID Norming and Training Resource for Course Outline of Record (COR) Primary Reviewers and Regular Faculty Reviewers document. This document was attached to the confirming this training. Become familiar with your discipline’s approved descriptors. These are the documents against which you will be comparing submitted CORs. It is recommended you download these descriptors to your desktop or print a set for your convenience during the review process. Descriptors are available at

Responsibilities Faculty Discipline Review Groups (FDRGs) – Responsible for Descriptor and Transfer Model Curriculum (TMC) Development Course Outline of Record Evaluators (COREs) – Review Courses Submitted for C-ID Designation Primary Reviewer Responsibilities Assign courses, manage assignments, monitor timelines, compile summaries, as well as serve as the tie breaker if necessary Faculty Reviewer Responsibilities Keep the review process holistic and focused on the descriptor and the COR. Provide clear and adequate feedback Notify the Primary Reviewer if review timeline cannot be accomplished --See examples in Norming document on feedback --See job descriptions in Norming document

Assignment of Courses One CCC faculty member and one University faculty member will be assigned to each course based on individual faculty expertise. Reviewers should indicate which descriptors they will address in the review process. Complete the checkbox selection of descriptors against which courses may be reviewed located through the link on your Welcome page (see slide 12). Primary Reviewer will make assignments based on the descriptors selected.

Receiving Course Assignments
When a course is assigned to you, an automatic from the C-ID website will be sent to you. Once you receive a message, you can log into the C-ID website to see your course assignments and begin reviewing courses. Automated messages only go out once a week (Mondays). Reviewers are encouraged to check back at least once a week to see if they have courses assigned. CORs should be reviewed within four weeks. The date is listed on your course assignment list (covered later) and you will receive an reminder of courses. If you are no longer able to participate in the review process, or will be unavailable for any length of time which will make it impossible for you to meet your review deadlines, please immediately notify both your Primary Reviewer and C-ID staff

Once you sign in, you will receive the following screen: Select Descriptors Against Which You Can Review Courses The first time you log in, please click on the “Select Descriptors” link to indicate which descriptors you are comfortable reviewing courses against. You can edit your selections at any time by clicking on the “Select Descriptors” link in the bottom right hand corner of this screen. This is the same screen where you can change your profile (including your password), or log out.

Problems with downloading CoR
If you encounter a problem with accessing the COR, what do you do: us and let us know so we can correct the problem. We will notify you when the COR has been provided and the course is again ready for review. The Primary Reviewer will be notified you are unable to review the course.

You will change the drop down menu to yes or no for each statement. If you select no, you must add in a comment for each text box. Prerequisites and Corequisites The outline must have the same prerequisite or corequisite as is listed on the descriptor. Course outlines may contain a prerequisite or corequisite where there is none required by the descriptor. Prerequisites or corequisites in addition to or at a higher level than those required by a descriptor are also permitted. Descriptor advisories are strong recommendations only. Course Content The COR does not have to include the exact same number of content areas listed in the descriptor, or the exact language. However, holistically, the COR must address the content required by the descriptor. An element that is contained in one part of the descriptor may be inferred from another component of the COR. There is no expectation that any element of the COR will be consistent with the descriptor in a word-for-word manner. Course Objectives/Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) The COR does not have to include the exact same number of objectives listed in the descriptor, or the exact language. However, holistically, the COR must address the requirements of the descriptor objectives. Although all C-ID descriptors are written using objectives, CORs may contain objectives, SLOs, or a combination of both. For the purposes of review, the SLOs can only be utilized as a benefit and not as an area for improvement or required addition. For example, if a COR from a college contains both objectives and SLOs, and does not have an objective from the descriptor in the objective area of the COR, but, the topic or theme is covered in their SLOs, we can consider that topic/theme met as part of the holistic review. If, however, for that same COR, the topic or theme is in the COR objective area (or another area in such a way as you can determine this requirement is met) but not covered on their SLOs, you cannot ask that it be added to the SLOs since the descriptor requirement was met elsewhere and C-ID descriptors do not contain SLO requirements.

The Articulation Officer may enter comments related to textbooks on the COR when they submit or resubmit a course if there is updated textbook information not included on the submitted COR. This is where you might find that newer textbooks are being used than are reflected on the COR. Information in this area should be taken into consideration during your review of textbook appropriateness. Course Units The descriptor units are the minimum units required. The course outline may contain more units but not fewer units then as indicated on the descriptor. Methods of Evaluation The methods of evaluation listed on a descriptor are examples unless otherwise indicated. Course outlines must indicate methods of evaluation that validate the course content. However, there may be methods of evaluation listed on the descriptor that are inherently necessary for the content of a particular course (e.g., essays for an English course). Textbooks Textbooks listed on a descriptor are examples unless otherwise indicated. Course outlines submitted to C-ID must include material in this area as appropriate for the discipline and course. In keeping with established articulation policies, the expectation is that at least one of the textbooks will have a publication date within seven (7) years of the course outline approval date. There may be cases in which a more recent text is expected (e.g. a technology course), the publication date is less relevant (e.g. classic primary sources in literature, philosophy or history) or an exception exists relevant to the particulars of the discipline in question.

Overall recommendation. Final Comment. Approved – the review process is complete, the COR met the requirements of the C-ID descriptor, and the course was awarded the requested C-ID designation. Conditionally Approved – the reviewers are temporarily done with the review; the submitted COR aligned with some, but not all, areas of the C-ID descriptor. The course was close to receiving the requested designation, but is missing important elements. The course must be resubmitted within one year with the requested modifications in order to be awarded the requested C-ID designation. Not Approved – the reviewers have temporarily completed the review process and the course was not awarded the requested C-ID designation. The course has significant and fundamental variations from the C-ID descriptor that prevent it from receiving the requested C-ID designation. The course must be resubmitted within one year with the requested significant/fundamental modifications in order to be awarded the requested C-ID designation. You can then save your input and come back later or check the box and submit.

Once you make all your comments, you will need to select an overall recommendation. Your choices are: Approved, Conditionally Approved, or Not Approved. Please see the C-ID Norming and Training Document for descriptions of each of these (p ). If you select Conditionally Approved or Not Approved, you must include a final comment.
20
Course Evaluation Form
After making an overall recommendation and making a final comment when necessary, you can either save the record and return or submit the review. Your submission will go to the Primary Reviewer. Once the Primary Reviewer is finished, the course will either go public or back to the Articulation Officer.
21
Conditionally or Not Approved
If a course has been conditionally approved or not approved, it will be sent back to the submitting Articulation Officer who then has a year to resubmit a revised COR. When an Articulation Officer resubmits a course where you were the original reviewer, it will automatically return to your list. You would then only be able to review the areas that needed correction and verify concerns have been addressed. Your previous comments will be visible. You would follow the same process as you initially did in the first review. You will only be allowed to type in areas of the evaluation form which correspond to the areas found lacking on the original CoR.
