3 painting un-numbers craftsmanship
2
3rd Grade Un-numbers In this project we are painting hidden numbers. All the ends of the lines that made the numbers had to touch something. After we drew the numbers we paint the shapes that they made. We moved our paper around so we could paint better in the lines. Some of us added designs with paint. It turned out to be a picture. We worked really hard for 3 classes. We framed our painting of hidden numbers.

3 rd Grade Un-numbers Tie into math work of multiple addends Differentiating between lines and shapes Perceive accidental shapes (negative space) Improving painting craftsmanship (stay in the lines you make) by learning and practicing techniques Inventing color, value and intensity AND texture/pattern through experimentation
4
Un-numbers: steps Compose the whole space with numerals that touch each other and the edges of the paper. There should be no beginning or ending of lines that dangle.
6
Paint in the un-numbers… the shapes created from the lines of the numerals: on- purpose spaces, like in the numeral 0, and in the accidentally created spaces between the numerals. START WITH LIGHT COLORED PAINT
7
Tempera cake painting supplies Your paper Paint shirt (Segal cabinet) if needed Paint brushes 2 buckets not over half full of water Tempera cakes paint set (red table) Small container with ½ inch of white paint Magazine (Bearden cabinet) Paper towel Placemats
8
Painting techniques 2-rinse system, getting off the extra water without splashing, Getting the brush to come to a point Turning your paper cleaning off tempera paint cakes, Cleaning brushes and buckets and palettes and table
9
Put every color in several shapes When mixing a new color: Make enough for several shapes.
10
Paint in your lines choosing brush size wisely – according to the size of the shape to be painted, holding the brush upright to get into small spaces, turning the paper so you can always see the edge of the shape. Getting the brush to come to a point
11
Amount of water If the paint is too hard to get off your brush, put more water in you paint.
12
If you make a mistake Fix it when you paint the neighboring shape… use thick paint. For this reason, it pays to start painting with lighter colors.
18
If you finish early, get creative You can add texture with pattern. How many kinds of patterns can you think of?
