Why This Came Up u H2S alarms goes off and we respond, u Techs and crew go under SCBA / SABA. u I thought two things: –“How in the heck can we communicate with the crew? –“How in the heck can they communicate with each other?”

Communicating Under Air u Who’s been under air? u Were you able to give/get information? u What was the communication problem? u Could safety be an issue if not able to communicate?

Communicating Under Air u If you can’t communicate, you can’t… –Effectively monitor the safety of your people t 1or 2 Tech(s) can’t watch everybody at once –Give and receive information for the job –Eliminate some elements of claustrophobia t Know that someone is monitoring your safety t Some folks will have it

Communicating Under Air u To communicate under air, what is needed? –A way to hear and speak –A way to make your voice broadcast –The radio itself u All three elements have to be approved equipment

Communicating Under Air u How did we solve this? –Tactical Throat Mics, PTT and Radios t They are not toys, they are SAFETY EQUIPMENT. t Used by military and law enforcement all over this planet? t Doesn’t interfere with wearing a mask! t People have to get up “trained up” on them t Conformed ear piece so hearing is good! t Used with PTT button that is wrapped. t Radio (inc. battery), Mic, PTT all must be I.S.
