Energy is the ability to do work or cause a change.

The 2 basic kinds of energy are kinetic and potential energy.
Kinetic energy is the energy an object has due to its motion.

What factors affect kinetic energy?
KE depends on an object’s mass and velocity. KE increases as velocity increases. KE increases as mass increases.

Calculating KE KE = ½ x mass x velocity2 Example:
A 1350kg car travels at 12m/s. What is its kinetic energy? KE = ½ (1350kg)(12m/s) 2 KE = 97200J
