Special Education teachers tutor Before each GHSGT retest administration, our Special Education teachers tutor our seniors who need to retest. Idea behind this – those teachers read the test every time it is given, and they work well with students who need the retest

11 th grade on the football field BHS has one ELA 11 th grade teacher At the start of the school year, she takes her students to the football field and has them visualize their graduation and talks to them about passing the graduation tests and receiving their diploma the following year.

Writing tutorials Generate a list of students from the writing predictor tests they take as sophomores, as well as recommendations from their 10 th grade ELA teacher Our English department and graduation coach tutor students in jeopardy of not passing the Writing test twice a week during their planning period. Tutoring begins five to six weeks before the Writing test

GHSGT tutorials in Math and ELA We pull retired Highly qualified math and ELA teachers from the Bowdon community to come in and tutor our juniors who are in jeopardy of not passing the GHSGT in these subjects. The tutors stay a full day or two days each week and meet with students during their elective classes. Program runs from MLK day to the GHSGT

Faculty mentors List of our economically disadvantaged juniors Faculty members choose the ones with whom they have a good rapport Meet with the students informally

Senior Saturday school We offer Saturday school twice first semester only for seniors who are failing their classes needed to graduate Organized and run by our graduation coach

30 minute review of the GHSGT Before each GHSGT test, the teachers lead a 30 minute review just prior to the test administration on that day 20-25 students in each classroom Department chairs organize the review

Night school scholarship to at-risk seniors For those seniors who need a night school class to graduate but cannot afford tuition, we have a fund where BHS could pay that student’s tuition Only for seniors in their second semester Application which includes an essay – administration judges and awards

GHSGT prep class 1 st time we are offering this Only for 2 nd semester --- juniors in jeopardy of not passing the GHSGT take a study skills class Select juniors based on 8 th grade CRCT

Hand deliver notices At the end of the 3 rd nine weeks, we hand deliver letters to parents of our seniors notifying the parents that their student is at- risk of not graduating in May.

Life after Bowdon Bulletin board on our front hall Pictures of seniors with colleges they are accepted to or the branch of military they are joining

Name-calling Know our students and call their name in the hallway during class changes
