revolution A sudden, radical, or complete change in a political organization or government The American Revolution brought many changes in the colonies. patriot One who loves his or her country and supports its authority and interests Patriot leaders voted to stop all trade with Britain. loyalists Colonists who remained loyal to the British during the American Revolution Colonists who remained loyal to King George were called loyalists.

tax Money or goods people pay to a government Colonists protested the tax on stamps and other goods. proclamation An announcement The Proclamation of 1763 said that colonists were not allowed to settle on land west of the Appalachian Mountains. representation Something that expresses a point of view Because they had no representation in Parliament, colonists did not believe they should pay British taxes.
