QR Codes in Instruction Presented by Mike Sanchez

What are QR Codes? ► QR codes are square barcodes that contain information on them from websites, pictures, contact information, and more! ► Not bad for a little square ► Not bad for a little square

Why QR Codes? ► Students are coming in with smart devices. So we must take advantage of this! ► It provides a portable way for the students to have access to many online resources. ► Helps in the transition for the flipped classroom.

Creating QR Codes ► There are a few websites that were provided to us when we created our QR Codes for open house.  http://azonmobile.com/qrcode-generator http://azonmobile.com/qrcode-generator ► Allows for custom codes and pictures on top of the QR Code.  http://www.qrstuff.com/ http://www.qrstuff.com/ ► Creates a simple code and options to create different type of links.

How I Have Used Them ► I have made QR codes to Youtube links of additional help and placed them on notes, assignments, and homework. ► Taped to student’s desk for easy access.

Helpful Hints ► Some Youtube links are often long and difficult to type. A redirecting site like http://tinyurl.com can shorten them for easier use. http://tinyurl.com  Example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JSwjmTFMDwg Turns into http://tinyurl.com/quadformula-ex3

Helpful Hints ► If students have connectivity issues due to Youtube you can use your dropbox. Dropbox has an option to make a weblink to anything in your dropbox. However, the link may be a bit frivolous. So tinyurl.com may help. https://www.dropbox.com/s/n78asg3q89t6ijn/Completing%20the%20Square%20day%201%20notes.pdf http://tinyurl.com/ms-cts-notes-day1

Your Teacher Website ► Since you can directly place files into your teacher webpage you may also place a link into a QR code. Tinyurl can be used to shorten the links if you wish. This will help in the case that students are blocked from using Youtube links.
