BASIC DATA Karel IV. was born on 14.5.1316, in Prague. He died on 29.11.1378, in Prague. His father was Jan Lucemburský and his mother was Eliška Přemyslovna. He was the first Czech king who was a Roman emperor, too. He studied in Paris. His name was Václav and he received name Karel in France.

MERITS In 1348 he founded the university in Prague, new town of Prague and Karlštejn.
