2 Presentation Objectives: Content Objectives: The participant will be able to plan an effective PowerPoint (PP) presentation. The participant will be able to critique a PP presentation based on the design elements presented.

3 Presentation Objectives cont’d Language Objectives: Working in small groups, the participant will demonstrate proper planning of an effective PP presentation by completing (WRITING) a Thinking Map that will include the planning process and details. Select groups will be called upon to present their Thinking Map aloud (SPEAKING).

4 Language Objectives, cont’d Working in small groups and given a sample PP presentation, participants will read/view the PP, discuss it’s +/- design elements and fill out the +/- critique chart. – Read, discuss, write

8 WHAT? What is my objective? – What do I need to tell them? – What do they need to leave with? – What is my measurement of success?

9 WHY? Why is my audience there? – Education – Entertainment – Buy a product/service – To be convinced Are they there voluntarily or do they have to be?

10 WHO? Who is my audience? – Relationship – Age – Gender – Education level – Prior knowledge on this topic

11 WHERE? Where will I present? – Room size – Room arrangement – Microphone – Slide advancer – Acoustics – Equipment – PRACTICE

12 WHEN? When will I present? – Time of day – Day of week – Month/season – What comes before/after me for my audience? – How long do I have?
