Current status of implementing the 2008 SNA in Swaziland Currently conducting an Economic Census Data collection for Phase 2 should be complete in March 2014 Data entry, editing and validation should be complete by July 2014

Current status - continued We will be working with the IMF regional office on benchmarking and rebasing the National accounts. With the benchmarking we hope to implement aspects of the 2008SNA. Currently the national accounts are based on the 1993SNA

Main Challenges and Difficulties Encountered Mainly concern the 1993SNA. For the minimum requirement data set (MRDS) we were still on milestone one. We need to improve the scope of the accounts in compliance with the SNA concepts Inadequate staffing,i.e,lack of human resources (number and level of knowledge) capable of implementing and developing national accounts

Type of Technical Assistance Consultancy – short term for capacity building Training – on the job and workshops

Urgent Topics which need Technical Assistance? Technical issues relating to statistical infrastructure, such as the business register and administrative data sources. Estimating supply and uses tables (SUT) and production account and generation of income account by institutional sector.

TA continued Detailed supply and use tables offer the best framework for the calculation of GDP following the 2008 SNA recommendations Capacity to use developed IT tools for national accounts statistics such as ERETES.

Conclusion - Technical Assistance Needs TA to make the conceptual changes from the 1993 SNA to the 2008 SNA. (IMF) TA to improve the scope, detail and quality of the national accounts and supporting economic statistics through: – SUT framework – ERETES – Quarterly NA
