1 Warm-up: Turn your Interactive Readers to the Li Po poems from Friday. Then answer the following questions: 1. In “The River Merchant’s Wife: A Letter”, the author uses great imagery, but also interesting symbolism; choose two of the following symbols and explain what you think they represent and why: a) the moss (line 20), b) the falling leaves (line 22), c) the paired butterflies (line 23), d) pulling flowers (line 2) 2. “Gazing at the Lu Mountain Waterfall” has some interesting metaphors. The author compares the waterfall to a “white rainbow of mystery” (line 6). Furthermore, he compares the splashing water as “cloud heavens” (line 8) and “pearls in flight” (line 15). Explain ONE of these metaphors and what effect you think it has on the reader.
