Congratulations to each of you for being selected to the 2010 JV Player Pool. You have made an elite group. In the beginning there were around 63 guys trying out for a spot on this years JV squad. You have been selected to represent Chapin High School.

This is the second year of the JV Pool and we hope that it will become a tradition. Who uses a pool of players –These are very common and almost mainstay in all European top clubs. –Irmo High School has used the JV Pool in the past. (Their numbers and other circumstances have caused them to return to the traditional roster this year.

Successful Clubs around the U.S. use the pool of players philosophy. U.S. Soccer itself uses a pool of players to draw from for competition.

Advantages of the Pool of Players are: –More players remain in the program. –Constant competition to enhance intensity at practice. –Depth of a squad to help with injuries and illnesses. –Better Player Development for Chapin High School.

Disadvantages of the Pool of Players are: –Not everyone will Dress for each game. –Not everyone will play in every game. –Top Level players may not get as much individual coaching due to numbers. –Travel expenses will increase. –Not all athletes will be able to travel to all games.

Playing time and its importance. During a regular 90 minute game each player on average will touch the ball for 90 seconds or 1 and ½ minutes. A player develops much more in practice with smaller sided games and more touches on the ball. Make the most of each practice!

Goals for the Pool of Players are: –To Develop more players. –To put a more competitive team on the field each game. –To maintain a level of excellence throughout the JV Program. –To provide athletes with a challenging and competitive atmosphere each day.

Pool Players need to realize: –It is a competition each week, each game. No one is ensured of a spot in any given game. No one is ensured that they will play in any given game. –You will be issued shorts and socks, and a Warm Up Top, you will not be issued a number. –Every member whether they make a playing squad or not will be treated as a member of the team. –Every member is expected to practice everyday, and be prepared to travel or play in each game.

Other Items of Importance –Playing time –School Behavior –Practice Attendance –Grades –Equipment –Travel (to and from with team) –Club Practice

We want You to be a part of this. That is why I have the boys applaud you at the end of each game. I want you to be a fan of Chapin Soccer and to come out and support our team realizing that some games your son may not get in. I know this is difficult to accept as a parent but your son's are getting older and this is going to become a part of growing up for them. There are players that play all the time that have been in the same place your son's are now. It is a long season and different kids will miss different games and when the time comes your son needs to be ready to contribute. Please celebrate Our Victories and help Us get over difficult losses through your support. I hope that we can count on your support this season and I am thoroughly enjoying working with your boys. Sincerely Bob Taylor Chapin JV Soccer Coach
