The Internet TThe internet is a giant network of computers that allows people all over the world to communicate quickly. Messages and information are sent via cable or satellite. Computers can be connected to the “NET” via the telephone network, or by separate cable and satellite links. TTwo features of the internet are electronic mail, or email, and the world wide web (www),a vast store of informations.

Linking and Looking up MMost PC’s connect to a service provider, or local gateway to the internet, via the telephone. Some televisions also have internet access. BBy using a browser programme, or electronic index, people can find data on computers around the world.

World Wide Web MMost information on the internet is published in the form of website coded files, or pages, stored on a computer called a server. EEvery web page has its own location on the world wide web and links to other websites. The symbol of Internet

Surf And Chat CCyber cafes let people log on, or sign on, to the internet and use the latest computer equipment for a small charge. CCustomers can enjoy food and drink as they “surf” the world wide web (www) and check their existing e-mail accounts.

Amazing Facts TThe internet started in u.s. in 1969 as a military system designed to work even in the event of a nuclear war. IIt came into general use only in the 1990s, and now dose not belong to anyone.

Internet Language IInternet surfers use a lot of special symbols and terms. Some are needed for technical reasons. Others make the net easier to use or are just fun. @@- E-mail addresses always have this symbol, meaning “at” followed by a users location.

hhttp- meaning hypertext transfer protocol: these are the rulers that make the World Wide Web (www) work. ::-)- this makes more sense if you look at it from the side- it means “happy”. WWWW- most websites addresses contain these initials, which stand for World Wide Web.

Some Important Points UUniform Resource Location (URL) tells the browsers the “address” of the information. BBrowser program allows users to access documents on the World Wide Web. IInformation can be download, or copied on to a PC. VVideophone to other web users.

EElectronic mail (e-mail) is a fact and easy way to sent messages to people. SShopping and banking can be carried out over the internet using a PC. NNews and entertainment are found on many different websites.
