International Alliance for NanoEHS Harmonization Kenneth Dawson, UCD Gaku Ichihara, Nagoya University Wolfgang Kreyling, Helmholtz Institute Harald Krug, EMPA Kun’ichi Miyazawa, NIMS André Nel, UCLA Günter Oberdörster, Rochester University Vicki Stone, Napier University

2 IANH Team Non-member Researchers Collaborating with the IANH: Vince Hackley of NIST, Scott McNeil (NCL), Gert Roebben, and Hendrik Emons of IRMM

3 The Issue Nanotechnology is developing novel materials, and risks are not yet understood Because it could lead to regulatory uncertainty and public concern, international harmonized action is needed Currently no standard test protocols in world- wide use

4 The Mission To generate applicable knowledge to safely and sustainably implement nanotechnology for the benefit of mankind and the environment

5 The Action Voluntary joining of Interdisciplinary Experts from EU, US, Japan to generate standard test protocols for assessment of environmental health and safety Test protocols will be applied for hazard assessment and risk ranking engineered nanoscale materials To validate the performance of test protocols by use of round robin testing To publish all results of the outcomes To make available protocols to scientists and agencies worldwide Round Robin is a process of applying same tests with same samples in different labs to ensure comparability Round Robin is a transparent process that is free from bias

6 The IANH Team for Materials
