3 VETERANS BENEFITS ADMINISTRATION Submitting the Certification Can be submitted 120 days prior to the term Prepare the record Enter term dates and number of credits * Chapter 33s- must report resident, online, blended/hybrid Chapter 33s- enter tuition and fees * It is preferred that you enter $0 and amend after the term Tuition and fees do not have to be reported for non-33s unless the student is less than half-time or on active duty 2 Back to the Basics

17 VETERANS BENEFITS ADMINISTRATION The “Un-terminate” Option 16 Situation: You accidently terminate a certification. You were attempting to reduce from 12 to 9 credits and now you can’t get your mistake back. What to do…… 1.Complete a brand new certification as you originally had submitted before (duplicating the first cert) 2.Add a standard remark to the new cert by clicking on the ‘Modify Remarks List’ 3.The Remarks options appear. Click on the ‘VBA Standard Remarks’ drop down list and choose the standard remark ‘Correcting Previously Terminated Enrollment. Notice of Change in Student Status(S) To follow 4. You can now make any necessary adjustments to the term as necessary.

20 VETERANS BENEFITS ADMINISTRATION Eligible: A Veteran that has served for 36 months of active duty on or after September 11, 2001 (not currently on active duty) A dependent eligible for Transfer of Entitlement under the Post-9/11 GI Bill based on a veteran’s service under the eligibility criteria listed above Not Eligible: Active duty servicemembers and their spouses are not eligible for this program Yellow Ribbon Program

21 VETERANS BENEFITS ADMINISTRATION YELLOW RIBBON TIPS: Create a student roster document based on the first come – first served method of determining which students will be granted yellow ribbon status ( VA Requirement). Create the School’s Yellow Ribbon Policy and have student’s sign an agreement Create a spreadsheet that allows you to determine the yellow ribbon amount submitted to VA. If possible, in VA ONCE, ensure the Yellow Ribbon Student is saved as a ’33YR’ student in the bio screen at the beginning with the term on or after August 1 of that year. *you may add $0.00 to the YR column now Yellow Ribbon Program Continued

Tuition charge for out-state students at your school: $300 / credit Tuition charge for in-state students at your school: $200 / credit Student is taking 10 credits. 25 VETERANS BENEFITS ADMINISTRATION VA Once- Reminders Internet Explorer Entering Social Security Numbers & File Numbers o In most cases, SSN = File Number o Chapter 35: Enter the Student’s SSN as the SSN, the Veteran’s SSN as the File Number. Use XX if unsure of Payee Number. o Chapter 33 Transfer of Entitlement- The Student’s SSN is the File Number Amendments and Adjustments o Update the most recent certification/change submitted o To amend/adjust a past certification/termination, use the “un- terminate” option 24
