+ Declension refers to NOUNS set of endings for nouns that follow a consistent pattern there are 5 Latin declensions each declension has 12 different endings use genitive singular form to figure out declension

+ First Declension predominantly FEMININE there are some masculine first declension nouns, usually about male occupations (agricola, po ē ta, p ī rata, nauta), some proper names (Scaevola), or Greek male names (Aen ēā s) most endings have an –A in them first vowel, first declension genitive singular ending is -AE

+ Nominative Case refers to –a (singular) and –ae (plural) endings indicates subject of verb subject is usually actor/doer of action/being word (verb) for example: puella est any word that describes subject will also be nominative when linking verb is used, word that describes subject called PREDICATE NOMINATIVE or SUBJECT COMPLEMENT for example: Gallia est provincia
