Landslide It started with a landslide just before the volcano erupted the lade slide moved 3.7 billion cubic yards of dirt.

The VOLCANO AWAKENS March 16 - May 17 1980 It started with many small earthquakes. lave started to flow out and create a 450 foot bulge. Then one big 5.1 scale earthquake

May 18,1980 On this day Mt St Helens explodes sending a 15 mile cloud of ash into the air.

The cloud of ash caused complete darkness in Spokane, Washington, 250 miles from the volcano. Video

Prevention The only warning is if there is a lot of small earthquakes. Earthquakes disrupt the earth making it explode when under pressure.
