We often focus on the limitations of women in the assembly. At the church of Rome, we read about the following: Romans 16: Vs 1-2 - The service of Phoebe, a helper of Paul and many others. Vs 4 - The help of Priscilla, even risking her life for Paul. Vs 16 - One named Mary, who bestowed "much labor“. Vs 12 - Twin sisters, Tryphena and Tryphosa. Vs 12 - The beloved Persis. What can a woman do? How can she contribute to the growth of a congregation? 3

Benevolence in an important work Jam. 1:27 - A mark of pure and undefiled religion. Matt. 25:34-40 – Is a service rendered to the Lord. Women are well suited for benevolence Rom. 12:6-8 - Can bring grace and beauty to this effort. Acts 9:36-39 - Have skills through which benevolence can be rendered. 4

Is an essential work Eph. 4:15-16 – involved every member building up. Entails: Gal. 6:1-2 I Thess. 5:11, 14 Through formal teaching II Tim. 1:5; 3:14-15 – teach children. Tit. 2:3-5 – teach younger women. 5

Is an essential work Matt. 28:19-20 – given by the Lord. Rom. 1:16 – must be shared with everyone. Acts 8:1, 4 – a work done by all. Can support the preacher Luke 8:1-3 – as did these women. Acts 16:15 – provide hospitality as did Lydia. 6

Can tell others about Christ John 4:28-42 – lead others to Christ like Samaritan woman did after her encounter with Christ. Priscilla: Acts 18:1-4 – Acts 18:24-26 – 1 Cor. 16:19 – Rom. 16:3-5 – 1 Pet. 3:1-2 – unbelieving husbands could be led to salvation through Christ. 7
