surface EMG Oral Muscular Screening InnerSmile Pro. Single Track Muscle Scanner
2
For use in First Visit Evaluation Screening … The Single Track hand held surface Electro MyoGraphy scanner is a small but very versatile dynamic muscle evaluation device. It has to be considered the entry level for physiological evaluation of muscle activity as well as muscle training. Single Track sEMG
3
Simply plug the unit into the USB port on your computer and hold it on the muscle group you want to evaluate. No messy gel on the electrodes Use Alcohol to moisten the contacts and to clean the area on the face to be scanned. EASY TO USE ON EVERY PATIENT

sEMG SINGLE CHANNEL HAND SCANNER sEMG EVALUATION AND AWARENESS TRAINING Zerobase Dynamic sEMG – Single Channel EASY TO USE ON EVERY PATIENT
5
For The Masticatory Function It Is Important To Evaluate The Following Muscles : RIGHT MASSETER RIGHT MASSETER LEFT MASSETER LEFT MASSETER RIGHT ANT. TEMPORALIS RIGHT ANT. TEMPORALIS LEFT ANT. TEMPORALIS LEFT ANT. TEMPORALIS UPPER HYOID GROUP UPPER HYOID GROUP
6
Muscle Relaxation Evaluations: SPONTANEOUS RELAXATION ◦ It is the natural perception that the person has about that muscle INFORMED RELAXATIONS ◦ When we give basic information to the person on what type of “behavior” to assume to allow the muscle to relax TRAINED DEEP RELAXATION ◦ When the person has undergone extensive cognitive training (sEMG Biofeedback), to learn the correct behavior in order to obtain deep muscle relaxation and therefore have the perception of minor muscle tension.
7
MUSCLE PATTERNS ◦ There are 5 elements to the sEMG muscle pattern ◦ You need to evaluate this basic sEMG muscle pattern.
8
MUSCLE PATTERNS The five elements in the muscle pattern are : 1.Resting Muscle Pattern 2.Contraction Pattern 3.Sustained Contraction Pattern 4.Release Pattern 5.Post-Contraction Pattern
9
HEALTHY MUSCLE PATTERNS ◦ In the normal pattern you see the muscle at its baseline. ◦ Then contracting and maintaining the tension. ◦ Next the muscle is relaxed with full release and no descent notch noted completely back to baseline HEALTHY PATTERN RETURN to BASELINE BASELINE CLENCH MAINTAIN CLENCH RELAX
10
MUSCLE PATTERNS BASELINE CLENCH MAINTAIN CLENCH RELAX LATENCY TO RECOVER DESCENT NOTCH Difficult to return to baseline ◦ In this example you see the muscle at its baseline. ◦ Then contracting and maintaining the tension. UNHEALTHY PATTERN “POOR RELEASE”
11
MUSCLE PATTERNS BASELINE CLENCH MAINTAIN CLENCH RELAX LATENCY TO RECOVER DESCENT NOTCH Difficult to return to baseline ◦ Next the muscle begins to relax and then stops and starts again, having difficulty fully releasing to the relaxed state. UNHEALTHY PATTERN “POOR RELEASE” ◦ This is what we refer to as a DESCENT NOTCH in the release or latency to return.
12
SCAN SIGNALS sEMG in Microvolts ◦ Detects occlusion asymmetry Mean-Median sEMG in Frequency [Hz] ◦ Detects local muscle fatigue Microbreaks in Responses/min ◦ Index of muscle health at rest There are 5 Different Graphs In Scanning Data
13
The Scan Profile takes 3 minutes 5 Different Graphs To Compare and View
14
FIRST GRAPH TYPE – EMG EMG GRAPH sEMG in Microvolts – – Detects occlusion asymmetry RETURN to BASELINE BASELINE CLENCH MAINTAIN CLENCH RELAX
15
SECOND GRAPH TYPE – THE PAIN LINK PAIN GRAPH Patients rate their pain level (from 0-10) in the areas that are scanned.
16
THIRD GRAPH TYPE – FATIGUE-INVERSION MEAN AND MEDIAN GRAPH Mean-Median sEMG in Frequency [Hz] - Detects local muscle fatigue But what does that mean?
17
Example of INVERSION Inversion or Local Fatigue Spectral Mean-Median wave colors INVERT at fatigue point.
18
FORTH GRAPH TYPE – MICROBREAK MICRO BREAKS GRAPH Micro breaks in Responses/min – This allows you to see if muscles are healthy, if they have split second gaps in contraction that allow blood flow, and sustained endurance. MICRO BREAKS Hold in full tension
19
MICRO BREAKS Hold in full tension Technical : Microbreaks are related to Muscle Spindle looping – like an auto-reset on the computer to keep it clear under load. ‘microbreaks Healthy Muscles show ‘microbreaks ’ – Split second gaps in contraction that allow blood flow, and sustained endurance.MICROBREAK
20
INTERFERENCE GRAPH –This shows if you have good contact or if you need to reposition the electrode. FITHTH GRAPH TYPE – INTERFERENCE CHECK GOOD CONTACT BAD CONTACT
21
Allows analysis of ‘Fatigue’. ADDING FATIGUE COMPONENT Spectral Mean-Median wave colors INVERT at fatigue point. sEMG Mean/Median NOTE: There is no fatigue in this graph – muscle is healthy. Look at : sEMG + Mean/Median = IS There FATIGUE ?
22
Allows analysis of ‘‘Microbreaks’. ADDING FATIGUE COMPONENT Are there healthy microbreaks? No – This muscle is fatigued. sEMG Microbreak Mean/Median Look at : sEMG + Microbreak + Mean/Median = Is There TRUE FATIGUE Now?
23
Screening Graph Examples 60 htz EXAMPLE 1 – Asymmetry Left Mass. Higher Swallow Not Going As High As Mass EXAMPLE 2 – Fatigue Easy Muscle Fatigue Possible Long Term Clenching Asymmetry
24
Screening Graph Example EXAMPLE 3 – FULL SCAN
25
SWALLOW CLENCH EXAMPLE 4 - Good Clench Tongue is not passive, also its showing higher in the swallow as it should Screening Graph Example
26
In Summary, this should be your next important piece of technology
