. © 2010 HaB International Ltd POWERbreathe K-Series is a handheld electronic inspiratory muscle training device and is the third generation of POWERbreathe products It is used to generate a resistance to inhalation in order to train the muscles used to breathe (diaphragm and intercostal muscles) Variable resistance training is generated by a variable disk valve which moves up to 4000 times per second Resistance is controlled in response to measurements of pressure, flow and volume calculated up to 500 times a second The system allows training to be continuously and precisely controlled in response to different measurements Provides feedback and measurements on training progress and inspiratory muscle performance What is the POWERbreathe K-Series? © 2011 POWERbreathe International Ltd

Auto-optimising IMT © 2010 HaB International Ltd The POWERbreathe K-Series’ auto-optimising feature allows the device to automatically estimate the user’s ideal training resistance PIF MIP Inspiratory Muscle Force-Velocity Relationship Flow Pressure During the first two breaths of a session, the maximum value of flow, and the pressure at which it is measured, is recorded. Training resistance is extrapolated from the peak inspiratory flow using a typical inspiratory muscle force-velocity relationship. Training intensity can be adjusted when in the automatic set-up mode in order to suit the user’s tolerance to exercise. Training Results © 2010 HaB International Ltd Training Results The POWERbreathe K-Series provides performance feedback following every training session Load is a measure of the resistance to inhalation during your training session – the equivalent to the weight lifted by the inspiratory muscles. Volume is the average volume of air inhaled per breath. Power is the average power generated during your entire training session and is a combined measure of the force exerted by the inspiratory muscles and the speed of contraction. Single breath Test © 2010 HaB International Ltd The Strength Index test can be used to quickly assess inspiratory muscle strength at any time. The test calculates inspiratory muscle strength based upon the peak inspiratory flow during a single test breath. The test results also show the peak flow and inhaled volume from the test breath. These results can be used to monitor the effects of inspiratory muscle training. S-Index value is rated (from v.poor to excellent) based upon predicted normal values calculated using the profile information (age, height, weight and gender). This allows multi patient use of the same product whilst maintaining hygiene. POWERbreathe Kinetic – KH1 Additional Features Maximum Inspiratory Pressure Test The widely accepted standard test for inspiratory muscle strength.
