SPIN-BG Seminar 1.Overview of CMMI 1.2 2.Model changes 3.SCAMPI method changes 4.Training changes 5.CMMI Architecture Author: Kiril Karaatanasov E-mail: kiril@karaatanasov.infokiril@karaatanasov.info Date: 12.10.2014
2
Overview of CMMI 1.2 Evolutionary step for CMMI that aims at: Reduced complexity Expanded Coverage Improved confidence and usefulness of SCAMPI The changes affect the full product suite: Model Appraisal Method Training
3
What is new in the model? Reduce Complexity and Size –Removed advanced practices and common features –Removed Supplier Sourcing addition –Merged Integrated Supplier Management with Supplier Agreement Management –IPPD has been revised and simplified –One book –Updated terminology Expanded coverage –Added Hardware amplifications –Work Environment coverage with OPD and IPM –Notes and examples ease implementation in Service environment –New architecture to allow expansion
4
Other significant model changes Improved Part One – Overview Explained better the usage of Generic Practices Generic Practices & Goals are moved to part two with PAs Added explanations on how PAs support implementation of Generic Practices Added GP elaborations for GP 3.2 Only SAM can be considered not applicable Project Startup emphasis in OPF and IPM
5
Significantly Modified Process Areas IPM + IPPD –Emphasis on maintaining the defined process through the project lifecycle (SP 1.1) –Establish project’s work environment (SP 1.3) –IPPD in one goal “Apply IPPD Principles” (SG3) OPD + IPPD –Establish work environment standards (SP1.6) –New IPPD goal - Enable IPPD Management (SG2) SP 2.1 Establish Empowerment Mechanisms SP 2.2 Establish Rules and Guidelines for Integrated Teams SP 2.3 Balance Team and Home Organization Responsibilities OPF –Emphasis on process deployment (SG1) –Rephrased “processes of the organization” to “organization’s processes” (SP1.2) –SG2 Now reads “Plan and implement process improvements” i.e. focus on improvements not activities. Moved SP 2.3 and SP 2.4 to new goal (SG2) –New SG3 Deploy Organizational Process Assets and Incorporate Lessons Learned SP 3.1 Deploy organizational process assets (former SP2.3) SP 3.2 Deploy standard processes (New!) SP 3.3 Monitor Implementation (New!) SP 3.4 Incorporate Process-Related Experiences into the Organizational Process Assets (former SP2.4)
6
Significantly Modified Process Areas REQM –SP 1.4 reads “Maintain bidirectional traceability among the requirements and work products.” – No Plans! –Bidirectional is demystified – “An association among two or more logical entities that is discernable in either direction” RD –SP 1.1 is now “Elicit Needs” i.e. base practice is removed –Intro notes speak about maintenance projects –“SP 3.1 Establish Operational Concepts and Scenarios” takes the material from TS SP 1.2 “Evolve….” –SP 3.5 now consolidates the former base and advanced practice TS –SP 1.1 merges base and advanced practice –Special sub practice in SP 1.1 added for 3 rd party components “Identify candidate COTS products that satisfy the requirements.” –Old SP 1.2 moved to RD –SP 2.3 merges base and advanced practice
7
Significantly Modified Process Areas SAM –Old SP 2.1 “Review COTS Products” is removed –Material from ISM is moved to SAM SP 2.2 Monitor Selected Supplier Processes SP 2.3 Evaluate Selected Supplier Work Products VAL –SP 2.2 now reads “Analyze Validation Results” no more “and identify issues” VER –SP 3.2 now read “Analyze Verification Results” no more “and identify corrective action”
8
SCAMPI Changes Reduce Complexity and ambiguity Provide Additional Guidance where needed Strengthen appraisal planning and conduct Strengthen appraisal reporting Define Appraisal Validity Period Strengthen lead appraiser requirements
9
Training Changes
10
CMMI Architecture
11
Core Process Areas Causal Analysis and Resolution (CAR) Configuration Management (CM) Decision Analysis and Resolution (DAR) Integrated Project Management (IPM) Measurement and Analysis (M&A) Organizational Innovation and Deployment (OID) Organizational Process Definition (OPD) Organizational Process Focus (OPF) Organizational Process Performance (OPP) Organizational Training (OT) Project Monitoring and Control (PMC) Project Planning (PP) Process and Product Quality Assurance (PPQA) Quantitative Project Management (QPM) Requirements Management (REQM) Risk Management (RSKM)
