2 INTRODUCTION  Have been working under the 2011-2012 Retention and Action Plan for the past 2 years  NC Federation of Chapters is in transition  It’s time to replace the old plan with a new one  Should create our future rather than allow it to happen 2

4 WHO IS RESPONSIBLE: Membership Committee, Membership Coordinator, Executive Board 1. Develop a clear set of long-term initiatives, in addition to those set forth in the plan, necessary to create the future envisioned for the Federation and chapters five to ten years from now and beyond. DD: March 2014 2. Seek a fourth option that will help retain members when chapters close. DD: April 2014 4

5 WHO IS RESPONSIBLE: Membership Committee, Membership Coordinator, Area Vice Presidents and Chapters 1. Area Vice Presidents to complete a chapter leadership survey with each chapter in their area. DD: June 2014 2. AVPs to examine chapter leadership strengths and challenges. DD: July 2014 5

6 3. Federation Membership Committee to develop plans for assisting chapters. DD: August 2014 and ongoing 6

7 WHO IS RESPONSIBLE: Chapters and the Membership Coordinator 1. Each chapter, through its own self assessment, identifies its uniqueness and ability to serve NARFE and its membership and to improve chapter leadership, recruitment and retention. DD: June 2014 7

8 2. Promote dues withholding to increase the number of sustaining members. DD: July 2014 3. Use the M112 and/or OAM reports from NARFE Headquarters to track membership activity to enhance recruitment and retention. DD: Ongoing 4. Use a NARFE information booth or table to contact potential members and to raise awareness of NARFE. DD: Ongoing 8

9 1. A list of Action Items, a Chapter Leadership Survey and Best Practices from Other Federations are included in the Plan 2. What’s Next  Takes effect immediately but will be refined continually  Feedback from chapters to inform the Federation on how the plan is working will, in large part, determine how the plan evolves 9
