Exploring the needs of the learners returning to complete secondary education whilst maintaining full employment survey result. In February this year a small-scale survey was conducted to gain understanding what are the needs of fully employed learners. The survey involved 38 adult learners from evening classes. The sample included 47% of men and women 53 % with a mean age of 23,9 years.

Learners according to employment Majority of respondents work as a shop assistant – 32%, 11% of respondents work in service industry, 11% of respondents work in building industry, 7% of respondents work in heavy industry. CCE’s l earners work also as office workers, a store-keepers - in both cases 7% of respondents. 25 % other categories: electrician, cook, waiter, security quart, driver, chambermaid

First question: What do you find as important factors when you attend evening classes whilst maintaining full employment? Learning hours adjusted to learner’s working hours 21% Quality of teaching process 17% Nice learning atmosphere 17% Professional secretary service 16% Quality of foreign languages teaching 8% Work adviser and psychologist help 8% Well equipped library 7% Teacher’s continuing professional development 6%

Second question: What kind of additional help do you expect from CCE? extra consultation with teacher when learner can’t take part in lessons because of working 41% partly paid consultation 21 % consultation preparing for final examination “Matura” 23% e-learning 15%

Third question: why did you start learning at CCE? Almost half of respondents (48%) want to complete secondary education, 31% of respondents said that they want to get new qualifications, 21% of respondents said they want to get new job.

Forth question: what do you expected after graduating from CCE? gaining self-confidence 46% getting a pay rise 17% getting more satisfaction in work 17 % getting a job promotion 12% no changes 8%

Fifth question: Do you want CCE to participate in EU Partnership Programs? The majority of respondents want CCE to participate in EU Partnership Programs (84%). 16% of respondents said that they do not want CCE to participate in EU Partnership Programs

Sixth question: How well do the foreign language lessons meet your needs? 79% of respondents said that they were satisfied with foreign language lessons 18% of respondents said that they were not satisfied with quality of teaching 3% of respondents said that lesson should be of higher quality.

A summary of key finding. The majority of working learners want to complete secondary education. They expect CCE to adjust learning hours to learner’s needs because of working hours. They would like to take part in extra teachers’ consultation. Graduating from CCE they hope to gain self-confidence, get pay rise and job satisfaction. They would like to participate in EU Partnership Programs. Asking about foreign languages they said they were satisfied with the quality of teaching.
