Managing Authority of European Territorial Cooperation Programmes Summary of the Programme (1) The cross-border European Territorial Cooperation Programme “Greece-Italy 2007-2013” was approved by the European Commission on 28/03/2008 Budget The total budget (ERDF and national contribution) for the European Territorial Programme “Greece-Italy 2007-2013” is €117,000,000 approx. The total financing consists of €87,750,000 approx. (75%) ERDF funding and €29,250,000approx. (25%) national contribution.

Managing Authority of European Territorial Cooperation Programmes What is a Strategic Project? A strategic project should be seen as a project that has all the characteristics of a “good” standard project, but in addition it has the ambition to affect/ result in a significant and long-lasting change and improvement on the whole or large parts of the eligible Programme area. It has to be extremely connected with national and regional policy framework, with the EU policies, priorities and challenges, i.e. Europe 2020, as well as with the essential standards identified in the ETCP “Greece – Italy 2007- 2013”

Managing Authority of European Territorial Cooperation Programmes What is a Strategic Project? (2) A strategic project must tackle an issue that cannot be sufficiently dealt with by individual regions or countries alone or by “ordinary” cross border projects. It is thematically focused, deals with complex issues, may engage a significant proportion of Programnme’s budget and has a strong involvement of bodies/ stakeholders in the particular policy field. It has to provide clear added value and strive for concrete outputs and results.

Managing Authority of European Territorial Cooperation Programmes Consultation Process The Managing Authority, following the decisions of the Monitoring Committee, promoted a territorial consultation with key actors regarding the identification of joint themes of strategic co-operation, involving all regions participating in the Programme. A methodology for the identification of common priorities of strategic co-operation was introduced jointly by the MA and Apulia Region, and included the definition and key characteristics of a ‘strategic project’ in the framework of the Programme. The consultation started in February 2012 with the submission of a relevant questionnaire and included the identification of priorities for strategic co-operation by all regions.

Establishment of cross-border areas of creative/ cultural industries; ii. Identification, promotion of tourism identity via the valorisation of cultural, natural/ environmental resources; iii. Establishment and promotion of hubs aiming at providing products and services to sectors such as tourism, arts, entertainment, design, architecture, media, ICT. Relevant Terms of Reference Development of the interregional creative district as a tool to improve innovation in cultural and touristic industries
