Why we sleep? Sleep is a requirement for normal human functioning; Sleep helps recover from daily aches & pains To feel relaxed & rested; Build up resistance to infection; To have more energy for a day; To be happy;

Why we dream? Dreams: mental activity that occurs during sleep; Dreams are experiences of imaginary images, sounds, voices & words; They usually seem real while your dream is taking place; Dreaming usually occurs during the REM(Rapid Eye Movement) stage of sleep; Dreams can be normal & realistic, or even bizarre & surreal; We dream about 4-5 times a night;

Sleep disorders Insomnia is a failure to get enough sleep to feel rested; Sleep apnea is trouble breathing while sleep; Narcolepsy means suddenly falling asleep or feeling very sleepy during the day; Nightmares are unpleasant dreams; Sleepwalking is walking or carrying out behaviors while asleep;

Daydreaming & fantasies Daydreams are fantasies that people construct while awake; Daydreams occur when you are half awake & it is the imagining or remembering of images or experiences in the past or future; When you daydream, you are using the right side of the your brain;

How much sleep is enough? Newborns: 16 hours a day; 16 years old: 10-11 hours a day; Students graduated school: 8 hours a day; Older adults: as little as 5 hours a day; Horses: 3 hours Cats: 12,5 hours Dogs: 10 hours Cows: 4 hours

Facts about dreams 1. You forget 90% of your dreams. 2. Blind people also have dreams. 3. Everybody dreams. 4. In our dreams we only see familiar faces. 5. Not everybody dreams in color. 6. Dreams are symbolic. 7. Negative emotions in dreams are more often than positive ones. 8. Animals dream too. 9. Men and women dream differently.

Conclusion Everyone needs to take time for a good sleep of about 8 hours; If you want to be healthy & happy, go to sleep regularly; Sleep is a critical survival need, similar to eating, breathing, drinking.
