Art History: Show video and slide show on Georgia O’Keeffe. Take notes on the following highlights….. - Born 1887 and died 1987, almost 100 years old. - She illustrates Flowers, Bones, Mountains and Nature. She uses bright or bold contrasting colors. -The paintings of the flowers are abstract because she zooms in and breaks the flower down into simple shapes. The flower goes off the page on all 4 sides. Studio Production…. Draw 3 different silk flower in sketchbook using contour lines then shade the different values using a pencil. Make a view finder using 4 strips of paper taped together to form two “L’s”. Use your view finder to zoom in on each flower drawing so at least 3 sides of the flower are cropped to create an abstract flower. Enlarge each abstract flower onto 3 separate pieces of white paper 8” X 12”. Only draw the contour line of the flower. Color 2 abstract flowers using only warm colors and 1 flower using cool colors. 1 flower using cool colors. Or….. Or….. Lay transparency over black and white photograph. Tape the transparency to the photograph. Shade the dark values in the picture using a sharpie. Place the transparency on top of the ONE flower that is warm or the ONE flower that is cool. Place the other two flowers either side of the flower with the face drawing on top of it. Discuss balance - is the work of art balanced as a whole? If not then go back and add dark colors to the areas that need to be darker. You must stick with the warm and cool color theme. Frame each picture separate using black construction paper. Tape the three drawings together. Lay transparency over black and white photograph. Tape the transparency to the photograph.
