Bullying is defined as: Both those who bully and those who are bullied may have serious, lasting problems. Deliberate intent to hurt or harm Behaviour is repeated or has the potential to be repeated Involves a real or perceived power imbalance Has a negative effect on the person being bullied

Summary – differences between bullying and teasing/conflict Everyone involved is getting an equal share of the teasing There is no ‘ganging up’ on one person People are not making fun of someone’s disabilities, ethnicity, faith or other characteristics that are not within the persons control The teasing is not repeated over and over again. It is not meant to harm you in any way, and if you asked the person to stop, they would It is done by someone you have a close relationship with. Although a friend might take it too far, they are immediately sorry when they realise and will not repeat/continue
