Alzheimer's Society Sunderland branch Ernie Thompson – Branch Chairman of the Alzheimer's society highlighted the need for “ …..earlier diagnosis and support as well as a greater choice of services” This would mean less stress for carers especially those from the poorest areas of Sunderland who contribute over 50 hours per week

Evaluation Sunderland puts a high value on care provided by friends, neighbours and above all, by family members. The economic value of unpaid care is estimated to be five times the council budget for Adult Services Including carer issues in strategic documents ensures that all agencies can tackle the challenges facing the city to bring about long term improvements and change lives for the better. Support for carers is vital
