Compact Successes in 2009 At our January Steering Group meeting we took stock of progress: We now have 37 public sector organisations that we are working with committed to the Skills Pledge Most of our member organisations have now got an ‘Apprenticeship Scheme’ and we are actively supporting those who don’t We continue to host good practice dissemination events (e.g. in November a ‘Skills Pledge in Action’ event – last week an ‘Embedding Apprenticeship Schemes’ event) We have developed a ‘Code of Practice’ to ensure that organisations contracting with the public sector share our commitment to training Nineteen of our organisations have committed to a LEP agreement We are actively exploring ways of working together to address the Leadership and Management agenda by collaborative Coaching and Mentoring arrangements
8
Other Compact successes in 2009 We have provided organisations with underdeveloped approaches to Apprenticeships with peer ‘buddies’ to offer additional support We have developed our web site into a ‘content rich’ platform with news, resources and minutes of key meetings available for reference and download We are making appropriate connections with the ‘Future Jobs Fund’ to ensure that the Compact plays a role in addressing the NEET agenda We have established good working links with TUC Unionlearn to help us address workforce development issues We are developing a Members’ Charter to get high level commitment to working together to address the particular challenges that face the public sector
9
Moving Forward The Compact has a key role to play in the public sector and local economic development We intend to continue to use our Charter to realise the potential of the Compact - ensuring senior management commitment - engaging across the public sector Our aim is to respond locally, connect regionally We hope to attract funding to continue and build on the work of the Compact
