This graph shows some of the parties people could vote for in Germany If you look at the brown section, you will see that the Nazis never had more Reichstag seats than all the other parties combined

What do these figures show? Although some people were voting for the Nazis, more than half the population were not The Nazis did not have a majority share of the vote Hitler never won an election – even with the main opposition banned

No Majority - Analysis The Nazis were well aware that the majority of German people had not voted for them It was clear to the Nazis that some force would be necessary to ensure the cooperation of the German people the Nazis would need a totalitarian regime to stay in powerThe fact that most Germans didn’t want a Nazi government meant that the Nazis would need a totalitarian regime to stay in power
