This is Ethan Collins who wants a present. If you could give him a present what would it be?
2
Does this picture give any clues about the present Ethan would like?

Ethan Ethan was born a month premature with a condition where most of his intestine lay outside his body. During surgery shortly after his birth, doctors were only able to save a tiny portion of his bowel. Ethan, who spent all but one night of his life in hospital also developed severe liver disease. He needed a new liver and intestine and was given only a few weeks to live.

Sadly a donor was not found in time and Ethan died in his Mum and Dad’s arms aged 11 months (Ethan Collins 2009-2010)

Someone out there needs a new start Do you have the heart? National Transplant Week 7-13 July 2014
6
National Transplant Week If you believe in organ donation, prove it Would you take an organ if you needed one? Nearly everyone would. But only 31% of us have joined the Organ Donor Register. More than 10,000 people in the UK currently need a transplant. Of these, 1000 each year – that's three a day - will die waiting as there are not enough organs available.
7
What is organ donation? Organ donation is the gift of an organ to help someone who needs a transplant. Hundreds of lives are saved each year by the generosity of organ donation. The organs taken after death are transplanted into the body of someone desperately needing them! Or they are taken from a live donor e.g. kidney.

After death, many organs can be donated for organ transplant: kidneys heart liver lungs pancreas small bowel In life, some organs can be donated too: kidneys, because we can manage with just one. part of the liver, because it can regenerate (grow back) part of the lung part of the small bowel (small intestine)
9
When were the first organ transplants? The first successful kidney transplant was in 1954. The first heart transplant took place in 1967.

Opting out or Opting in? In Wales from 1 December 2015 there will be an opt out system for Organ Transplantation You do not have to donate your organs you have the right to opt out. Do you think this is a better system than what we have in the UK at the moment? http://www.truetube.co.uk/film/organ-donors

Reflection “Each of us can look back upon someone who made a great difference in our lives, someone whose wisdom or simple acts of caring made an impression upon us. In all likelihood it was someone who sought no recognition for their deed other than the joy of knowing that, by their hand, another's life had been made better.” Stephen M. Wolf (born 1941); American Businessman
