5. It is thought that when we learn we go through three distinct phases: The cognitive phase. This is the beginner’s stage, when the learner is trying to understand the basics. The associative phase. This is the practice stage, when the learner can show a big improvement. Cognitive and Associative Phases

6. The autonomous phase. In this final stage, the performer is now at an advanced level. The movements are almost automatic. In this stage the performer can think ahead and not concentrate on the details of their own movement. Autonomous Phase
