Flights ‘R’ Us Established in 1996 by Stanley Clarke, located in Hull, 8 other staff (6 full-time, 2 part-time). Business Travel and Holidays for the Independent Traveller. Some Packaged Holidays, but not a major part of business. Stanley and his staff are used to operating a wide variety of computer systems, in order to; check price/availability & make bookings for; Flights, Car Hire, Accommodation & Travel Insurance, as well as for invoicing and back-office accounting.

Business Analysis (continued) Customers mainly repeat business slowly building up a loyal set of customers. mainly local however, past customers who have moved away often remain in contact. at a distance very few customers actually come into the travel agency. most often used methods for dealing with customers are Telephone & Fax.

Business Analysis (continued) Stanley has recently received a number of “offers” along the lines of: “Don’t get left behind, for as little as £250 we will Design a Web Page for Flights ’R’ Us (based on your existing advertising literature), and Host that page on our Server for one year.” He is not really sure what he is being offered, and is not at all sure that these “offers” are such a good deal. What exactly is the Web, does he really need to be a part of it, and could he do better by spending a little more money?

For each competitor: Take a Screen-shot each of the Web- pages you wish to comment upon. Then make it quite clear: What you like – and, therefore, intend to use within your Web-site. What you dislike – and, therefore, will not be doing within your Web-site.

Competition Analysis (continued) Comment on things that you DO like, e.g.: Consistent Web-page design, and use of colour. Main navigation system always visible at top of each Web-page. Newsletter Subscription. ‘Deal of the Day’. Flights presented in tabular format, with ability to ‘drill down’ for more details. Accommodation also presented in a similar fashion. Etc.

Competition Analysis (continued) Don’t forget to comment upon things you DO NOT like, e.g.: No main navigation link for Car Hire: very difficult to find, no details about Car Hire at all, have to call Barrhead Travel to enquire/book. No main navigation link for Travel Insurance: very difficult to find, simply re-directs customer to another organisation’s Web-site. Etc.

Major business processes concentrate upon the provision of: Flights, Car Hire, Accommodation, and Travel Insurance. For: Business Travel. Holidays for Independent Travellers.

Inviting potential customers to contact Flights ‘R’ Us by E-mail, Telephone, Fax, or Post(?) In order that the “deal” can be closed. Nice if this message could reach “new” customers; Especially those who do not live in close proximity to Hull.

Content Decisions (continued) Try to make it clear: What the overall content of each section of the Web-site will be. Then describe, in some detail, how that content might be presented. Look back at your analysis of the competition: Especially the things you did like about each of these Web-sites.

Content Decisions (continued) Flights Will be presented in a number of tabluar lists: with separate lists for flights to each continent. Each entry on these list will simply display: the Destination & Price of the flight. Clicking on a destination will lead to: a list of all flights to that Destination. Each entry on these lists will display: the Airport Name, Flight Dates (from & to), … Car Hire Etc.

The Site Map MUST indicate the WIDTH and DEPTH of the proposed Web-site.
