2 What is a Database? A database package allows the user to organise and store information. This information can be sorted, searched, navigated and browsed by the user.

3 What is a Database? All the information on one topic is stored as a file. Each record holds all the data about one item in the file. A field is a single piece of data about each item.

4 Personal Uses of DB Storing large quantities of information:  Names and Addresses  DVD Collection  Serial numbers for all electronic devices, bikes  Details for credit cards and bank cards  Insurance information (jewellry, cameras etc)

5 Organisational Uses of DB Storing large quantities of information:  Staff details  Inventory of all equipment  Stock levels  Car sale room – details of all cars  Care home – details of all residents
