7. AS or A level? Can be studied just as an AS or as full A level over 2 years AS level – identity, rights and responsibilities. A2 – Power & Justice and Global issues & making a difference Complements other core A levels such as English, History and Law Can be used to help contribute topics of interest to the AQA baccalaureate or Welsh baccalaureate extended project/essay Revision service provided at with a dedicated revision pack Both AS and A2 have 2 exams, no coursework

Prejudice, discrimination and disadvantage How can discrimination and disadvantage be reduced? What are rights? What rights do I have? The Legal framework: Protecting the citizen How do the courts protect rights?

9. AS Citizenship –what will you study? Unit 2: Democracy, Active Citizenship and Participation – The concept and nature of power Who has economic power in the UK? The influence of the media The citizen and political power in the UK What is the impact of the European Union Taking part in the democratic process Pressure groups Becoming an informed citizen Citizenship in action

10. A2 Citizenship – what will you study? Unit 3: Power and Justice – The nature of crime and the role of the police The Crown Prosecution Service and the trial process Who makes decisions; judges, magistrates and juries Sentencing Electing representatives, elections and accountability The citizens relationship to those elected The power and influence of the government The global village

11. A2 Citizenship – what will you study? Unit 4: Global issues and making a difference – Human Rights Conflict and resolution Trade and environmental issues How can citizens make a difference?

Active Citizenship Profile As part of the course you will be expected to be involved in a range of active Citizenship tasks, e.g.  Joining the school council  Joining a debating society  Raising money for charity. Involvement in these tasks should be recorded in an Active Citizenship Profile. The profile should be completed by each student and taken into the examination for unit 2.
